This week I went to the Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 launch event in my city (better late than never). An event like this is good for knowing what has been added to the new version of the products and to meet important people.
The first day was about SQL Server 2005 and most presentations were done by Solid Quality Learning members. As I don’t read too much about the changes made to SQL Server 2005 those talks come handy to provide a solid introduction to the most important parts of the product. The best thing for me was Integration Services, the successor of the DTS. Finally a great ETL tool!
The second day was about Visual Studio 2005 and most presentations were done by Microsoft employees. I didn’t enjoy this presentation as much as the SQL server ones, probably because I have seen a lot of webcasts about Visual Studio team system, ASP.NET and WinForms.
In the breaks I talked a few minutes with Fernando G. Guerrero, Alejandro Lequizamo (from Solid Quality Learning) and with David Carmona (from Microsoft). They were very friendly and responsive.
I hope to see another event here soon.
